Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has expressed strong confidence in his re-election bid, declaring that candidates of the All Progressives Congress, including Bola Oyebamiji and former governor Gboyega Oyetola, would be defeated long before the close of polls on election day.

In a post shared on his X handle on Wednesday, Adeleke said the opposition was already aware of its declining popularity in the state, insisting that the August 15 governorship election would be a mere formality.

“Both Oyetola and Bola Oyebamiji (AMBO) of the APC are afraid of the upcoming election in Osun and I am certain we will defeat them before 4pm on August 15,” he wrote.

Citing what he described as internal polling figures, the governor argued that his administration enjoys overwhelming support among the electorate.

“Their own APC commissioned polls, from late 2025 to March 2026, tell the story clearly. Every single one placed their popularity below 30%. Mine? 68 to 72 percent. Consistently,” he added.

He further stated, “The people of Osun have spoken, they are strongly behind us in ACCORD, and that is all that matters. August 15 is not a battle. It is a formality.”

Adeleke’s remarks come amid intensifying political activities ahead of the governorship election, with both the ruling Peoples’ Democratic Party and the APC ramping up mobilisation efforts across the state.

PUNCH Online had earlier reported that the governor recently approved a 52-member campaign structure, known as the Imole Campaign Council 2026, to coordinate his re-election strategy and grassroots engagement.

According to details released by the state government, the council is expected to serve as the central hub for campaign planning, voter mobilisation, and political outreach across all levels, from federal constituencies to wards.

The council is chaired by Prof. Wale Ladipo, with Senate Minority Leader Kamorudeen Oyewumi serving as Director General, while the Commissioner for Information, Kolapo Alimi, was named Deputy Director General. Other members include lawmakers, party leaders, technocrats and grassroots mobilisers drawn from across the state.

At the federal constituency level, separate campaign committees are expected to be established in all nine constituencies, while similar structures will operate across the 30 local government areas and 332 wards to deepen voter engagement.

On the opposition side, the APC has also consolidated its position ahead of the poll, with Oyebamiji emerging as its governorship candidate following a consensus arrangement during the party’s primary election.

Oyebamiji, who leads the AMBO political movement, was adopted as the party’s sole candidate after other aspirants stepped down in his favour. He has since pledged to prioritise poverty reduction, healthcare reform and infrastructural development if elected.

Despite this, Adeleke maintained that his administration’s performance and popularity would translate into a decisive victory at the polls, reinforcing his claim that the outcome of the election is already clear.
